There is no single "Durham dump." There are three Regional waste facilities — Oshawa, Port Perry, and Brock — plus a private transfer station in Pickering that most people mean when they search "Brock Road dump," and a second private site in Whitby that takes concrete for less than half the Regional rate. They have different hours, different prices, and different refusal lists.
This page is all of them in one place, taken from the Region's facilities page, the Region's waste by-law, and Miller Waste's posted rates, read on 6 October 2026. After that is the honest math on when driving it yourself beats hiring us.

The three Regional sites stay open until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays from the first Tuesday in May to the first Tuesday in October. In 2026 that season ends on 6 October. After that, Tuesday closes at 4 p.m. like every other day until the first Tuesday in May 2027. All three are closed Sundays, Mondays, and every holiday.
Miller also runs a site at 50 Taylor Boulevard in Port Perry, weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It does not post prices. Call 905-985-1122 before you load.
There is no public dump in Ajax, Uxbridge, or Clarington. Clarington's depot takes paint, oil, propane, and chemicals, not a couch.
What the Regional sites charge
The same rates apply at Ritson Road, Reach Street, and Brock:
| What is in the load | Charge |
|---|---|
| Up to 40 kg | $7 flat |
| Over 40 kg | $1.40 for every 8 kg, which is $175 per tonne |
| Fill: soil, dirt, brick, gravel, rubble, sand, cement, concrete | $375 per tonne |
| Fridge, freezer, air conditioner, dehumidifier | $20 per unit on top |
| Electronics, cardboard, blue box, Styrofoam, household hazardous waste | Free in a load of their own |
Three rules decide the bill more than the rate does:
- Mixed loads are charged on the whole weight. One bag of garbage in a car full of free electronics makes the electronics chargeable. Concrete mixed through a wood load can push the load to the fill rate. Separate free material into its own trip, or at least its own drop.
- You are weighed going in and coming out. Tell the scale house what you have; staff direct you to the right bay, and the exit scale tells you the charge.
- When the scales are down, staff estimate. The Region's 2026 fee schedule sets that at $7 up to 40 kg, then $12.50 per 100 kg estimated.
Payment: debit, or Visa or Mastercard credit or prepaid. No cash, no cheques, no accounts. Bring a card.
What the Regional sites take, and what they turn away
Accepted (charged): appliances, carpet and underlay, drywall, furniture, garbage, porcelain fixtures, scrap metal, and wood.
Free in a dedicated load: blue box recyclables, cardboard, bulky white Styrofoam, electronics (televisions, computers, phones, printers, audio), plastic election signs, and household hazardous waste up to 50 litres or 25 cans per vehicle. Paint, motor oil, antifreeze, propane tanks, batteries, pool chemicals, and fluorescent tubes (40 per vehicle) all go in that hazardous drop. Ritson Road also runs a paint reuse centre where you can take up to five cans a day for free.
Not accepted right now:
- Tires. The Region has suspended tire drop-off at all its facilities because of an overstock. It asks people to store tires until the suspension lifts, or to use the province's Where to Recycle map. Retailers that sell tires must take back up to ten a day per person.
- Leaf and yard waste. No longer accepted at Regional facilities. Use the curbside yard waste collection.
Never accepted: ammunition, asbestos, explosives, flares, PCBs, radioactive material, commercial hazardous waste, electric vehicle batteries, and e-bike or scooter batteries over 12 kg.
Rules at the gate, from the Region's by-law:
- Loads have to be enclosed or tarped and leak-proof. Unsecured loads are refused entry.
- No walking or cycling in to drop something off. You need a vehicle.
- No scavenging. Everything you drop becomes the Region's property.
- A boat needs its fuel, oil, coolant, filters, and flares removed first.
Pickering and Whitby: the private sites
The Region sends Pickering and Ajax residents to Miller Waste at 1220 Squires Beach Road, in the industrial area near Bayly Street and Brock Road. The Region's page tells you to call Miller (905-426-4222) about rates and cash before you go, because it is not a Regional site.
What Miller posts for Pickering:
- General waste and shingles: $165 per tonne, plus tax.
- Minimum: $10, for loads of 60 kg and under.
- Blue box: $5.99 a load, plus tax.
- Electronics: free.
- Scrap metal: free.
- A monthly fuel charge applies to the total.
- Household hazardous waste is free for Durham residents, Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. That is the Region's program, run at Miller's site.
Miller's Whitby station at 2000 Wentworth Street (905-725-0899) posts a $165 gate rate, plus tax and fuel, for residential wood, construction and demolition material, drywall, rocks, concrete, and toilets. Shingles are $111.01 a tonne. Yard waste is $165. It takes no hazardous waste.
Which is cheaper depends on the load:
- A small load is cheaper at a Regional site: $7 against Miller's $10 plus tax and fuel.
- Scrap metal is free at Miller Pickering and charged by weight at the Region.
- Concrete, brick, and rubble are the big one. The Region charges $375 a tonne. Miller Whitby lists concrete and rocks at its $165 gate rate. Even with 13% HST, that is about $186 a tonne before the fuel charge. Call first to confirm they will take your load.
How long is the line?
Neither the Region nor Miller publishes wait times, and we will not invent one. Two things are worth knowing. The Regional sites are closed Sunday and Monday, so Saturday and Tuesday morning carry everyone who cleaned out the garage over the weekend. And Miller Pickering opens at 7 a.m., Monday to Saturday, an hour before the Regional sites. Spring cleanup and the fall close-up are when everyone goes at once.
When a self-haul beats hiring us
The facility fee is usually the small part of the bill. What you are deciding is whether to pay for a truck and two people.
| What you are getting rid of | Approximate Regional facility charge | Our price, before HST |
|---|---|---|
| One mattress (about 30 kg) | $7 | $109–$169 minimum |
| One couch (about 45 kg) | About $8.40 | $109–$169 minimum |
| A fridge (about 90 kg) | About $16, plus the $20 refrigerant fee | $109–$169 minimum |
| A pickup bed of mixed household junk (about 200–400 kg) | About $35–$70 | $209–$309 quarter trailer |
| A full 15-yard trailer of household junk (1.5–2 tonnes) | About $260–$350 | $629–$799 |
| One tonne of concrete or brick | $375 | Quoted by weight |
The weights are typical figures, not promises. Your load gets weighed on the scale.
Drive it yourself if it fits in your vehicle, you can lift it, and it is one trip. A single mattress or couch is a $7 to $9 errand. Paying our minimum for that does not make sense. Check the free curb first, too: every municipality's large-item rules are in our lookup, and most of them are free.
Hire when any of these are true:
- It does not fit in what you drive.
- It is up a flight of stairs or down in a basement.
- It is more than one trip.
- You cannot lift it.
- You do not have a free Tuesday to Saturday daytime.
At that point the dump fee is the smallest line on the bill, and you are paying for labour and a trailer either way. Our price guide shows where the facility fees sit inside each band. Oshawa-specific comparisons with the City curb are in curb, Ritson Road, or hire. Demolition debris in Scugog has its own page.
Send photos if it is a hire. If the photos show one couch and a pickup truck in the driveway, we will tell you to take it to Ritson Road.
